Most mei tai straps are attached at the corners of the mei tai with a few extra inches of strap left inside the carrier for internal or external reinforcement, but M.O.M. Tai straps are sewn completely through the body of the carrier for superior strength and durability. The creates a supportive internal harness that cradles your baby in comfort and pulls him or her close to you.

Sure there are quicker methods of construction, but to us the extra effort and material are worth it!

Our Mei Tai Is Even Better Now!

  • Heavier weight twill for excellent support and a resilient carrier that can withstand wash after wash. The twill is still brushed for softness in most colors, but not sanded, so it will stay newer longer!
  • Extra padding in shoulder straps for your comfort! Not only did we add thickness, but we also added 6" in length for more cushion when wearing straps crossed on back or chest!
  • Longer straps! Standard shoulder strap length is now 70" - you can even choose extra long for ultimate wrapability.
  • Wider straps! Straps are 1/2" wider than the original ones at about 3.5" .
  • Straps come trimmed in matching print fabric for a sleek, pulled together look.
  • Shoulder straps at a higher angle for a closer fit.
  • Shoulder straps emerge from carrier through the top corners of the body to prevent baby from leaning away from you.
  • Slimmer storage flap and new strap location combines with specialized internal quilting make upper edge stronger so it stands up while you place baby on your back.
  • Two rows of topstitching on the body for superior strength in addition to the interior reinforcement stitching.
  • Industrial strength nylon thread in all topstitching for safety and durability.
  • Entire carrier is sewn on a combination of industrial sewing machines for the srongest, most consistent stitching possible.

  • How We Designed Our Mei Tai

My husband and I began designing the MOM Tai in January 2005 after we discovered the ?mei tai love.? The even weight distribution and portability of the mei tai baby carrier are great for us, and our daughter Laurel enjoys being able to see over our shoulders to watch what we are doing while she rides along. She is an "arms out" baby when she is awake in the carrier, but 9 times out of 10 she falls asleep after a little while. In a typical mei tai, her arms are out, propped on the edges of the carrier with her head flopped to the side. We wanted to make a mei tai that allows her to keep her arms out and still have head support when she naps ? and I wanted to be able to stow the head support away for a sleeker, more traditional mei tai look if the mood struck me. We wanted it all in one baby carrier!

After much visualizing, sketching, sewing, and finally wearing.. and wearing? and testing, the MOM Tai is here. It has evolved to be the most practical and versatile mei tai baby carrier on the market, yet it is incredibly simple.
